Here is a collection of documentation of experiments and digital design processes. First there is a series of experiments described with images and videos. (You need windows media player to see them).

Second there is a list of publications I have done on the topic and a list of internationally published projects. The research and most of the projects and experiemtns are done in the context of the OCEAN design research association.

Keywords: Design computing, digital creativity, digital design, digital architecture, rapid prototyping, generative design, dynamic generative diagrams..

Rapid Prototyping and Displacement mapping 2004
Displacement mapping is based on mapping an image of a pattern onto a surface. The surface geometry is manipulated according to the image pattern.

3D for Designere

The research and practice into computer use in design lead to an expanded interrest into the theme of complexity in design. My current research has developed far into that direction. Please visit the web page for Systems Oriented Design. Below you find my doctoral thesis from 2005 and other papers related to digital research.

History

The Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO), Institute of Design has a leading role in the development of design computing. The 3D CAD education at the Institute was established by Birger Sevaldson in 1990 - 91. The first investments included a SGI Personal Iris with Alias and Anvil5000 software. Since then the activities have grown to include four obligatory CAD courses, all of them totally integrated in projects or thematic courses. In addition there is an increasing activity on special projects and workshops.

Another turning point was in 1993 when we decided on MicroStation as the basic software which ensured the volume of the activities. The third step was in 1998, when a DTM Sinterstation rapid prototyping mashine became of the inhouse facilities at IFID. The increasing demand to the quality of the 3D models to be produced on the sinterstation forced us to alter software once again. SolidWorks was after a evaluation period chosen as our main software (Again we where one of the first school to choose this solution). Through all the years Alias/Wavefront Studio has been our main software for styling and conceptual 3D modelling. In addition we in 2000 we added Catia to our selection of high-end software.

Resently Rhino with different plugins like Grasshopper have become more important.
